I’m looking to automate water changes. Perhaps 5 gallons per day. Those of you who have this on their system I would like first hand experience in what you use, how it has worked out, any problems, ease of setup ect.

I'd recommend the TP link smart plugs and 2 water pumps of any kind. You can set it up so that the 2 pumps will turn on at the same time and for the same duration, one pumping old water out and the other one pumping new water in.

Take a look at the Litermeter III with a remote pump module. The pumps are robust enough to handle that kind of volume. It allows you to calibrate each pump, accounting for your input and output tubing runs so you can accurately ad and remove the same amount of water. Failsafes can be added with the overflow protection module, which uses a pressure switch will shut down both pumps if your sump level gets to high.

I have this setup but have yet to install it on my system as my tank is relatively new. Here are a couple of YouTube videos on its set up...

If you have an Apex, I would recommend the DOS. I change roughly 3 gallons a day, 5 days a week. Set up is extremely easy. I haven't had any issues as of yet......I have been doing it about 6 months now.

AutoAuqa ATC made the most sense for me. Took off my osmolator for another tank I started and set that up instead. Costs about the same, gets the Job done. Not as fancy as DOS but if you dont have Apex then not worth getting it just to do AWCs.

Having tried a few systems including the DOS I believe the best, by a good margin is a used masterflex pump. Dual head. If you watch eBay a while can find them for a few hundred. Plug into a digital time or apex, add a low level flat valve in the SW container for a run dry failsafe and you have the best system out there ime. I have two masterflex, one for my SW and one for FW discus and altum angel tanks, that one has been changing around 30g a day for over 5 years now without missing a beat.
