I have a 5 month old tank and want to refresh my tank. not sure if I should use a starter or a refresh, im really not sure what the difference is between the two bacterias. any help would be appreciated.

you shouldn't

it will only pass cash to bottle bac sellers, no benefit.

*to really refresh*
be spot feeding and changing water more than an average reefer. your calories burned in feed/export will drive corals and rock maturation better than any doser literally. they wont help at all comparatively. what you want to do is reinforce the bac that already select in your system; increasing energy vs stagnancy will specifically do that.

You can be cleaning, removing early stage uglies as you work. guiding the tank.

bottle bac w have you skip all those core, crucial steps. not any clues from full tank shots you could post would indicated a need for more bac, vs feed and export.

its important to state however that if you ceased adding that, nothing would happen.

Many of the bacteria in a bottle products do work well. They are a combination of different heterotrophic strains that may not exist in large numbers, or are completely void in our systems. Which one is better? Well I don't feel any of them do a great job explaining which bacteria they have in solution and what they are specifically targeting. You could try a few different kinds. Dr. Tim's products do a better job going into a little detail about the benefit of their bacteria.

I do feel that a bottled bacteria is a great way to start and continue to feed a healthy bacteria count. The reason im asking is more to see what others used and opinions from results. I hear really good things about the micrbactor 7 but know there is a lot of research/ information on the Dr Tim's products. Again with this hobby what works for some doesn't for others, this is just opinions and results in looking for. thanks again everyone!!

I do an occasional addition of Bacter 7 to all my tanks.

ok perfect! and you have a 60 gallon fully stocked?

how often?
1-2X per week. About 7 months ago, I had a bad outbreak of Dino and using bacteria supplement was no doubt a help in getting rid of it. Since then, I have made it a practice to do small additions for which My parametrs are stable, but mainly- no return or sign of Dino

I dose Seachem Stability after every water change and then twice a month I also dose FritzZyme Monster 460. Started this regimen after the second bout of dinos and kept it up for the past near 1.5 years on a 75g full mixed reef tank with a medium level bio-load. So far so good.

What does “refresh my tank” mean?
