best beginner graphic design software?

Wanting to make some designs for T-shirts, I messed around on illistrator back in high school, but thats it. Should I just buy photoshop?

Or should I just pay someone on Fiverr?

I have always used Adobe illustrator or photoshop to make designs. You could also use GIMP or Corel, both of these are pretty good as well

I haven't done too much graphic design - so I've only used a couple of free programs - but I agree with Gumbies R Us that GIMP (the only program listed that I've tried) is pretty good.
