Ok i am at wits end i don't really know which is the best bio pellet reactor to run for my tank. i own a 500 gallon system (650 total ) sps dominated with about 23 fish and need to run 2 liters of pellets to keep my nitrates below 10ppm.I have been through three reactors so far one was a next reef plumped into my manifold it would work just ok the mulm would build up and the biopellets would stick together causing constant adjusting of the flow via the manifold which sometimes was not fun to adjust so i got rid of the then purchased a skimz BR153 with its own intake pump and it worked awesome! kept my nitrates just below 5ppm but the problem with this reactor that i experienced was because i used 2 liters of pellets even with the DC pump where i could adjust the flow very easily the pellets would toss all the way to the top of the reactor and collect on the output screen where the water travels down via a hose to the input of my skimmer, but over time the blockage of the pellets would cause the tumbling of the pellets to slow to barely even tumbling, the only way to fix this problem was shut down the reactor real quick so i could bang once on the top of the cover to release the pellets that collected on that top screen. because i had to do this at least once a day i got rid of this reactor and picked up a avast Large Spyglass Reactor with its own intake pump which tumbles the pellets perfect! but the problem with this reactor is the water from the tumbling pellets just overflows over the top of this reactor instead of being able to direct flow from output into skimmer intake and by doing this i think that by not removing the mulm or any other product (mulm / biofilm / free bacteria) of the biopellet reactor (allowing it to go back into the tank) kinda defeats the purpose of nutrient export by re-introducing it back into the tank (mulm and bacteria growth) and i noticed my nitrates are climbing where with the other reactors seeing i could put the output flow from the other two reactors in front of the skimmer intake i was able to keep nitrates down. PLEASE HELP! looks like i am going to have to purchase yet another reactor for bio pellets. Help me with what is the best bio pellet reactor for both tumble and can do it at a consistent tumble and out put to skimmer Thanks

I used to put a small magnet on the inside of the reactor and when they would start to clump I move the magnet around to break them up.

I hear what your saying, but I would not want a magnet touching the reef's water.
Heavy metal's....

:)

I second Reef Octopus. If you want the best possible contact Life Reef. If they dont make one that fits your needs they can custom build you one. You pay for their quality though. Not sure if Melevs Reef builds reactors, I know he does custom acrylic work and is top notch so its worth contacting Mark as well.

Every pump and powerhead has a magnet in contact with the water. Its all about what type you use, some hold up better is saltwater.
