I was looking at getting the 300 watt Mars aqua for my 29 gallon but just noticed it doesn't have a timer or controllable. What's a good black box with those features? Wanting to spend around 200ish maybe alittle more.

Hold on.....300W (actually 218W) on a 29 gallon tank??? I don't know if you could turn that down far enough and still be too much light.

A 165W (actually 120W) would still be way too much, but more reasonable. Take a look at the Viparspectra 165....HERE's an example. Has the timer you were looking for and otherwise similar to Mars Aqua.

I was planning on running it low but I want something that will light the whole tank without mounting it super high.

It would be nice to get something close to 30 inches with legs that's controllable with timers

Now with legs.....I choose SB Reef Lights:

I do like those. Atleast they are alittle bigger. I just hate when you have a bright center and dark sides.

As close to the tank that you want your light, like I started, you can take the lenses off and get better coverage, blending. I did that with mine.

thinking it's either the 300watt vipar or Mars aqua with timer. The sb reef 32 would be nice but its alittle to pricey with the timer.

So I am stuck here and not sure which to get. I'm really liking the SB reef's light but cant afford the 32. So am looking at the sb18 with timer. So at 18 inches that leaves me 6 inches on each side not under light. If I put them higher enough I wont have a problem really. But with my rock work it will be shadowing the edges. So with that is why I am still considering the vipar 300 for full coverage. Anyone got a sb16 or 18 over a 29? Share a picture please.

165 Vipar over half a 60 gallon so it’s covering 24”x15x15.5. It’s 10” above the water and there is very little light spill, doesn’t bug me at all. Hope that helps. It’s set right now to 5% white and 10% blue for acclimation purposes. I’m quite happy with the quality of the light all around except for the fans which are total junk. I will take it apart soon and see if I can replace them with a quieter model.

I’ve been considering this light as well for my next build. Just FYI you accidentally linked to the freshwater version....

Oops! In a rush I was simply looking at images to show the legs that came with SB Reef Lights, and when I saw the legs, I linked. You are right, HERE's the "reef" fixture with legs.

So how long does it ussally take sbreef to ship? It says on there site 2-4 days. I ordered on the 3/22 and still nothing
