Best Copepods for my Situation

Hello,

I know different pods have a variety of different needs. I was wondering if someone could tell me the best copepods for my situation. I don't want to be dosing phytoplankton. I keep my tank around 80F. I have a refugium with a large amount of ulva sea lettuce and live rock rubble so something that would eat the ulva would be ideal. Benthic copepods would be preferred to be better fish food.

I've purchased a number of different pod types. Dosed 80% into the refugium and 20% into the tank at night. The populations never really took off, maybe even died entirely. I was thinking the 5280 Pods Blend from AlgaeBarn might be best. Has anyone had good experiences with these?

My fav is pod your reef, lot's of types if you want specific species

Pods will eat bio films on surfaces. You might try the pods mix from

It has a good mix and some will live in your ulva and rock rubble

You want a benthic copepod vs Pelagic copepod..

Benthic live on the surface while Pelagic live in the water column.

Pelagic is better for fish breeders but wont survive long in a reef aquarium. Both are sold in the hobby...

Yep, bethnic for long term viability in the tank would be best. Any of those places would do, they are all the same pods mostly, Tisbe, Tiger, and Apoc

I think the 5280 pod blend would be good, when you say you have a fair bit if ulva. The first thing that comes to mind are amphipods - that is a perfect culturing environment for them. Perhaps add some amphipods to your fuge and the 5280 to the fuge and DT. I have ordered a lot of amphipods from florida pets and really like the quality and care they take with their product. I wish I had a fuge so I could stop ordering - but wrasses love amphipods.

Here is my 2 cents the Tsibe pods in that mid would take off in your tank. I am unsure about the Apoc I have no experience in adding them to tanks -nor- culturing them. I probably will by the end of this year... but for now it’s not in the cards. The T Cali (Tigger pod) will simply be a waste to try and establish a long term population in your fuge. Even if they do manage to populate for a bit they will go away soon. They are however SUPER easy to culture. As in I just keep a bucket of them in my backyard -heater, no air stone, water evaporates water become hyposaline when it rains -they are fine. I keep the heater set to the lowest setting...

The reason they don’t take off is that they simply spend too much time in the water column... as a result they are pulled into the tank in VERY high numbers. Once in the tank they they will not last for longer than 1.5 seconds... as their swimming motion will catch the attention of any fish within 2 ft.
