looking for best options for cuc for turf type algae. I lost a big shipment of chitons due to usps frying them. Before I order them again, just check for other opinions. Current working hard on nutrients with better skimming, gfo, carbon, and less feeding.

Also suggestions on good substrate cleaning. I had several conchs in the order I lost as well. Any other suggestions other than conchs?

In addition to chitons, you may also want to consider urchins or emerald crabs for turf algae. If you search for "sand shifting clean up crew" you will find a large amount of input. Good luck!

Got an emerald who I never see touch it! Considering a tuxedo or two

I had turf algae for awhile on my rocks and when I turned my lights down during the day it went away in a couple weeks. I have the Maxspect Razor X light and I run the whiter colors about 45% during the day with more blue for the corals and then they turn up the whites during the evening when I am home.

Fluconazole is how I beat turf algae in my last tank.

I don’t recall any threads where it was eradicated by crabs or snails

They may keep it at bay at best, and only IF you find some that will actually eat it.

How’d you dose the fluconazole? Did it hurt anything?

I have a mixed reef with mostly sps, lps, 4 nems, snails, tangs, gramma, clowns, and a flame angel.

I honestly don’t remember the dosage.

I had nems, corals, fish, inverts and nothing was harmed.

There is a massive fluconazole thread on here, you can find it with a quick search.

I’m at work right now so I don’t have the time to find the dosages right now.

A bottle of Vibrant plus, Trochus, astrea and turbo grazer snails

Vibrant didn’t work for mine but amazing on other algae’s .. my red tux urchin keeps it at bay

for me my red turf issue began after dosing fluconazole for bryopsis, and quickly covered every rock and the overflows. I spent more than a year trying to eliminate it, NoPoX, Vibrant, etc did nothing. I picked up some astrea snails for teh film on my glass and set one on the rocks - a few days later that area was clear, so I bought a bunch more and they have been doing a god job of knocking it down so far.

+1 to this!!! Watch how it begins to wither away and turn into dust just minutes after dosing. Miracle
