I am in the need for a heater for my 10 gallon. I am going to go all out on the most important piece of equipment you need for a tank. Anyone got a great high end expensive heater?

I think you will find that as long as you get a reputable name brand heater, they r all the same. I have 2 200 watt Finnex HPG digital heaters and they work good, but I still use my Apex to control them as the t-stats on any heater is never accurate.

Send me $100 and I'll give you an answer!

I'm a firm believer that Eheim Jager is one of the best heaters.....glass twice as thick as others. The one drawback is that they are long, so make sure they fit.

That said, I don't care what heater you get, you need to get a controller. Other than a total tank controller (i.e. Apex), your next best bet is Ranco or InkBird. These will protect your tank form heater failure where your tank could get cooked.

Heater is the piece of equipment that has least evoluted in the hobby, however one of the main responsibles for tank disasters where everything is lost.

I use the Eheim Jagers, which are basically super old technology, but out of everything out there, I guess it holds up. Really wish we had a more secure, go to options.

Eheim Jager is great in my 10g, it is alittle long but every time I check the tank temp it’s 78 on money. Dustin

Anyone know about the aqueon pro line or the fluval E series?

I've used both the Eheim and Cobalt.. both are really good.. The Cobalt does loose some of it's accuracy over the years - they say that you should replace your heater every year though... for piece of mind (I don't have an apex and I'm not a fan of other temp controllers), I picked up the Smart Temp Security by AutoAqua..

I must be the only one who has experienced two eheim jager failures one after another. First one stuck on and the replacement leaked voltage. Both purchased new from authorized retailers. Luckly I was using the two heater method or else I would have had a total tank loss. Temp only reached 84 degrees thank god.

Look into the controllers mentioned above. Also you can check out the smart temp security from auto aqua as a simple failsafe instead of a controller. Each has their pros and cons.

The Fluval E Series seams like a good heater, I was seriously considering them but there was not enough room to run them in my AIO.

It's not just about failures. I use eheims but their internal thermostat isn't precise enough to really keep temp stable.
