Hi all, my first post. I worked at "A Wet Pet" in Eden Prairie in the 90's and decided to get back in the hobby with a 75 gallon reef tank. I've tried the search option but there were too many mentions of the word "filter pad" to get any clear answers.

I removed my 7" filter sock in favor of a 12x3 filter pad that can can easily change daily. In the future I would like to run without any mechanical filtration and let the micro fauna take over.

  • What is the best cut to size 12" roll filter pad? I've been using marineland brand with mild success but wanted to ask this community for any additional insight.
  • Cost effective
  • Clearest water

Thank you,

Check amazon. I’ve used the green and pink pad rolls. The pink has a very porous first layer with a denser second layer. The green has a denser first layer than the pink one and a slightly less denser second layer than the pink one. The green holds up better if you clean and reuse them. I also keep 10 micron fabric on hand for polishing when I do tank maintenance.

I don't use pads but.
