In a 420, options are almost endless. I would definitely do a pair of large angels, like a queen & annularis, majestic & emperor or regal & king passer, along with a couple of dwarf angels from a flame to a potters & a golden with a flameback. They are considered as cautionary fish but these are fish I have owned with successes in a mix reef & an array of inverts. The key to keeping them from picking at coral or inverts is a well balanced diet, these are the type of fish that will hone in your husbandry skills. On top of those, there are gorgeous wrasse fish like a mystery to exquisite & Hawaiian flame, but the bare bottom will limit your selection of wrasse because there are quite a few that like burrowing themselves in substrate. There are tangs like a powder blue, Achilles, shoal, clown, purple, blnods, desjardini, chevron. A small pod of convict tangs is nice to see. Vlamingii are tangs with tons of personality & when fully grown they kind of look like a tiny whale. There’s an assortment of anthias, chromis, cardinals & dartfish. A huge variety of clownfish. You can find a few reef safe triggers. Rabbitfish are pretty neat too. With butterfly fish, you can find a few reef safe ones. I’ve had success with saddlebacks, melons, pyramids, copperbsnds & longnose. There are way more that I can’t think of but hopefully that gives a few ideas.
