Hello! I was wondering what the best sand sifting gobies/blennies/dragonets would be for a 20 gallon long reef tank.
I currently have a pair of clowns, pep shrimp, snails, and saltwater mollies.
thanks in advance!
:D

I’ve had yellow clown gobies before and love them.

current tank has a Midas Blenny (truly one of the prettiest fish I’ve ever owned) and an Ora Or biota bred court jester goby (such cool fish)

Hard to go wrong with any IMO lol

Court Jester will essentially “play” with sand periodically but none I listed will lol sorry for missing that detail in my rush to talk about them

I have the classic yellow watchman/tiger pistol combo and they keep me entertained for hours. My goby does eat from a syringe, however, I do drop some small bits of masstick on the sand and he grabs a mouthful.

I would stay away from Yellow Watchman Gobies. They are great and hardy fish who do sift the sand but they can turn a very drab gray as they age. I would know as mine is around 12 years old and turned gray a long time ago. I love my little buddy but its ugly as heck lol.

I would agree that a tailspot blenny is great for a smaller tank. My daughter has one in her 20 cube. Lots of personality. Supposedly he's supposed to eat algae too, but my guy apparently prefers to sunbathe and wait for the pool boy to bring him refreshments.

Well I woke up this morning... I’m hoping my tiger pistol molted and didn’t die. Found some sort of remains... and now the goby is losing his mind, swimming all over the place - I could even grab him with my hand. Normally, he hangs in the burrow

Oh no. I hope your shrimp is ok.

same thing happened to my sister crayfish. We thought it molted but it actually just died…

I am thinking about getting a yellow watchman now…
I just love their cute grumpy faces!
Do you know if they can live with a peppermint shrimp?

My favorite sand sifting goby is the Diamond Watchman Goby!

As far as I know, my tailspot did not sift the sand.

I've had several and am about to add one to my current reef. They're awesome fish, but they do not sift sand. They'll play around with it (I've seen them spit sand on/off rocks occasionally), but they're not going to be suitable for the function of "sand sifter."

another vote for the diamond goby. super sifters! A bit drab in coloration but man can they turn over sand. get a screen over the tank because gobies will all jump if spooked or hassled.
