Hello all,

Brand new to the forum. I've been in the hobby for well over 10 years but mainly just fish and live rock. Recently set up a 45 gallon reef and have been purchasing corals based on what looks good to me with no regards for compatibility with each other or my equipment. Lfs don't offer much in the way of guidance. And I just realized I have no clue in the differ next between sps lps and everything else! Lol my question is is there an all encompassing guidebook for beginners like me to learn all that is required. I appreciate your feedback and help and look forward to participating

"Book of Coral Propagation" by Anthony Calfo. "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist" by Robert M. Fenner. "The Coral Reef Aquarium" by Tony Vargas.

+1 to above listed books and to add a couple more I feel would suit you well also.

'Reef Aquarium Fishes' by Scott W. Michael

'Corals ~ A Quick Reference Guide' by Julian Sprung

Cheers, Todd

The Reef Aquarium Volume I, II, III (Charles Delbeck and Julian Sprung). Volume I is dated but has a nice section on Tridacna. All the above mentioned books are excellent as well.

Fenners book is dated but an excellent beginners guide. He uses humor in both his books and his personal appearances, I loved listening to his stories every time I saw him. Calfo is also a hoot in person and backin the day when you could get them both in the same room you were in for some entertainment, especially if they had a couple Margaritas in them.

I'm a big fan, too.
