Im looking for a HOB Auto Top Off System For my 50 gallon tank. I want something that is easy to use. Any suggestions would be helpful.

The JBJ ATO is very simple. The only issue I would see though is having the float in the DT. live stock could possibly affect the float.
I believe Tunze has an ATO system with a pump small enough to fit into a 5 gallon jug.

Ya the float would be a pain in the butt with the live stock. The tunze is nice but expensive. I could always hand top it off. Rather have a system tho

I was doing hand top off's for a little over year. I just started using the JBJ ATO. I'll never not have one from that day forward, the convenience is so nice.
There are also other option like the gravity drips. I've never done one but I've heard of people using them on tanks as big as 40G, so I'm sure going to a 55 wouldn't be too different.

Just a thought, you could consider the JBJ and but a small overflow box into the DT in a corner. just cut the overflow slots a little deeper so the water level stays consistent with the rest of the tank and have the float sit inside.
should keep it away from the live stock and the surface agitation wouldn't be as much of an issue either.

Ive had 3 jbj controllers. 1 still worked after 6 months. Around that 6 month mark it too failed. I had it repaired at my expense with a local electrician and he said the internal components were cheap and under sized.
That's my .02.

I don't have a sump so I'm using a Hydor ATO in my display tank. Great unit and very little visibility in the display

Do you have a canopy? My 55g sumpless I used the avast ATO with the mount attached to the canopy, only a small amount of the sensor tube was in the display. It's a pressure switch so no worries about livestock affecting it, waves won't either

Hmm. That's the new model. The last IM ato turned into the biggest turd according to all the reviews I saw.
They may well be. I don't use them. I do have a friend that has one and he likes it. The OP was looking for something without a float switch and that is one option.

After this came up last night I went straight to research mode. Looks like this model was released last fall and the reviews are the polar opposite of the previous model. It's been simplified to a quality controller with more reliability it would seem. After looking at schematics and the materials used in ordered one from BRS. We shall see.

Yea that's the only downside to it. I have the micro one also and I think the head pressure is really good for how small the pump is mine is set at least 2 feet below the tank and works awesome.
