so, finally getting a second tank set up in the office. will be a grow out, observation, and back up tank to the DT down stairs. Not trying to get too fancy with it, I will probably end up getting/building an AIO to replace this 40, but until then I need a skimmer. I thought I had an old BakPak2 that I was gonna use until I upgraded, but seems that might not be the case. With that being said, im trying to find the best HOB skimmer for my needs. Ive got it narrowed down to two, give me your experience, feedback, and suggestions if you will. Or if you think there is a better skimmer for my needs, in the same range, give my your ideas.

Im thinking either of these:

AquaMaxx HOB1

Octopus BH1000

These seem like comparable units, just trying to decide which is better for my needs. thanks

Have you looked into any Eshopps Skimmers ? I have and use their HOB model ES-PSK-75H on my QT and or Frag Tank when setup nowadays but used for a couple of years on my 75g while mainly Softy LPS. I'd step up to the larger cup in a 100H seies though. They are online for $150-170 regularly and can pick up used for $50-100, great skimmer for the $

Cheers, Todd

I have considered them..I guess they just didnt make the second cut, in my mind. but now that you bring them up, ill have to give a second look. any input/preference on the aquamaxx or octo?

Reef Octopus BH1000
Aquamaxx BH-1
Both are fantastic HOB Skimmers

LOL....well thanks RM. ;) after my research, thats what I also concluded, but was looking for a bit more insight on one or the other. I know they both will perform the given task, but is one better? or more user friendly? more quiet? you know the deal. thanks for the response.

You cant go wrong with either choice. Thanks y are both outstanding, both get outstanding reviews, both are relatively quiet. Thsts the reason I post the. Both instead of just one, its basically your call. You will not regret either.

Thanks bud. I wasnt trying to be rude..so, i guess it really is just a toss up. pretty much, whichever suits my/your personal style and design choice.

I have used the Remora hob skimmer and it is a excellent skimmer.

Exactly, at that point its all in what you see as that which you want on your tank. :xd:

It wasn't mentioned but I recently went from the eshopps psk75h to the RO BH90 and while it's still breaking in its kicking the eshopps butt.

well, there are just far too many options. the BH90 looks much more appealing to me than the bh1000, but im still leaning to the aquamaxx. Now, the BH90 is tempting me to research it....

I couldn't find a whole lot on it but what I did find was good enough and made me curious enough to try it. I was leaning towards the bubble magus but I kept hearing about the pumps failing. So far the bh90 has been solid. Best hob I've owned so far.

BH-1000 has my vote. Only because I've been running it now for a year and love it!

I know the BH90 is new and you probably have no personal experience with it, but would you still choose the 1000 over the 90? Im thinking the BH90 is more appealing because of its cone shaped design and siphon intake.

I loved my aquamaxx hob. It pulled great gunk out and was very quiet. Plus the blue acrylic looks pretty cool haha!

So which skimmer did you go with? I know it's been almost two years since this was posted but I'm looking for a skimmer and undecided between AquaMaxx HOB1, Eshopps PSK-100H and RO BH1000?
