Best individual fish for a 20gal tank

Can’t really go wrong with a Clownfish to be honest. Colourful, active and hardy.

A word of advice with a sixline, lovely to look at but should you ever add more fish to the tank they can be aggressive. Does not play well with others.

Some people may say I am overstocked...but in my 20 long with eshopps refugium cube I'm running a 400gph return pump dragons breath macro and ss110 skimmer. Ammonia is 0 nitrites 0 nitrates 0
So to each their own I suppose. I have 1 cleaner shrimp, firefish, 2 maroon that are small at the moment, and a 6 line. Pic is one of the maroon while he was at in the 7 gallon aio

I’d get a bonded pair of clownfish (smaller ones) . They mistake some corals with aenenomes so it’s pretty cute when they bond with it.

I would get a Valentini Puffer...... my puffer is full of personality.

I had a valentini in my 16 gallon Fluval. Like Jon said, a really a cool fish with lots of personality. Always out in front, ate frozen food from day one. I had Acans, Zoa's and Palys and he didn't touch any of them.

He jumped out and I lost him. Bought another but this one started eating my Acans! My FLS took him back the very next day. A great fish but hit and miss on reef safe.

I replaced him with a Mystery Wrasse. I think one of the most colorful and unique wrasses. The plan was to eventually house him in one of my bigger tanks. But I upgrade to a Fusion 20 gallon and he's so at home in that tank. He's going to stay there.

My choice would be the Starcki Damsel. Damsels are great if you don’t want other fish. Very hardy and tolerant of fluctuations. And the Starcki has stunning colors of bright yellow and blue.

Maybe not very active but a small Frog or Angler fish would be very cool.

I have a 20g tall tank and currently have a pair of Stubby Clownfish, a Bicolor Blenny, and a Lubbock's Wrasse. All get along and are active interesting fish. Since it is a small tank I added them separately.

I just recently set up a 20g as an anemone tank. Still early at 3 months so no anemone yet but there are two clowns. I'd go with two clowns many types of clowns to choose from also.
