Bare with me, only the enthusiasts will make it thru this one...

So I started a Saltwater Aquarium. Been somewhat of a passion/desire for years. Finally pulled the trigger, did a lot of reading, then did more reading lol. Knew i was in for a ride/learning curve. But dang....

First mistake.... I listened to the guy selling me the product/livestock/equipment instead of being patient and adhereing to the reading i had done.

Started a 55gal display, went with the following equipment :
* Eheim 600 classic / CoraLife Seascape L.E.D. @ 65 par peak / 1 7lb live rock/ 40lbs dry crushed coral sub @ 2.5” depth/ approx 15lb dry rock / 2 Koralia PH @ 565gph plus the salt and heater @200w w/thermometer

Inhabitants : 2 Fire clowns(1M/1F), 2 H Crabs, 1 Green wolf eel, 1 H Crispa Nem ( 7” disc w/ tentacles ranging from 2”-5”) 1BTA (I think ,it was attached to the LR i bought. Still small-1.5” disc)

LFS said tap water was totally fine to use (idiot) so i did. Threw everything off. Same guy said it was a good idea to add an $80 Nem(H. Crispa) on a brand new tank. Bought the LR with the BTA attached, thought i was getting a deal lol... HA!.... OG plan was to build a community tank with the future holding coral/reef.... i bought a G.W.E. Juvi.... (moron).... oh yea, fire clowns are great community fish.... wrong again.... and 2 Hcrabs as my CUC.... are you laughing with me yet? Or laughing at me lol... this was all exactly 17 days ago... lol

Since then i signed up to this site in search of remedies and solutions to a number of problems ranging from “how the hell do i save this Nem” to why did my fire clown female kill my expensive Beautiful Bella Goby i just bought....

Current situation ( due only to the fact that experienced reefers such as yourselves who made it this far into the post) is the following :

H.Crispa .... ALIVE and doing well, bonded with the 2 fire clowns, and tho not out of danger yet, seems to be on its way to surviving a new tank cycle

G.W.E. ..... EVICTED LOL... currently in holding in a seperate tank awaiting transfer to his new 48gal Bowfront tank which i had no intention on building at the start

Fire Clowns... in the same display tank. Owning my display tank is a more accurate way to describe the situation. Currently working on a new 25 gal tank that will be dedicated to those 2 and their Nem(H. Crispa)... i will be moving them as a unit.

Water Params as of today : 0 Ammonia ; 0 Nitrites ; 30 Nitrates ; 8.2 PH ; 1.025 SG ; all at 81.5 degrees F .......and holding

CUC is now at 14 snails ( mix of trochus, atreas, and turbo... with 1 bumblebee) and 6 H crabs ( mix of blue and red boss crabs.) with 1 jeweled blenny.

I attempted a goby around day 12, the G.W.E. ate him... (after that incident he refused the freeze dried and all other hand fed, began assaulting other inhabitants ) this led to his eviction.
At day 15 i introduced a Bella Goby, beautiful fish with a purpose. female fire clown forced it out of the tank overnight. Now everybody needs their own tank in order for this eco-system to properly function. Still with me?

I began 5gal water changes daily with RODI water @ day 4, adding a daily stabilizer chem to help with the good bacteria and help the nitrogen cycle... I’ve just been thru my first diatom bloom and green algae bloom (all within about 4days thanks to the snails), added an additional 15lbs of aged LR, and I’m still pretty banged up about losing that Bella..... I should’ve researched FIRE CLOWNS instead of believing the LFS that they were non aggressive community fish.

So if you made it this far, give me your opinion. Any ideas, suggestions or advice is welcome. Even the posts that are directed at letting me know i did it all wrong are warranted. Trust me, whatever you say i will be learning from. That, my friends, is the goal of this long butt post. Education. I am brand new to this hobby and community, so everything that comes thru is something to learn from. Trust me, you wont hurt my feelings, by saying i did it like a dumb butt, I’m currently building 2 additional tanks that i had NO intention of creating in the beginning, but, i have to admit.......... I’m having fun lol... as long as nothing else dies(especially that Nem, its ****ning gorgeous)

Yes you pretty much did it all wrong!!! Seriously it was many years ago but I have been there and done that. The key is realizing you did it wrong and seeking a better way to move forward.

As far as advice I would not do the daily WC. Maybe 10 gallons weekly now that you have it stabilized.. What chemical are you using to help with the nitrate?

I don't believe any of this story without pictures. I need pictures of the nems, the clowns, the eel, even the idiot lfs worker....
That is the best response i could have hoped for lol!!!!!

Due to the fact that is impossible floor the Nem to have survived.... pics incoming my friend

At first i was only using the Primer chem to stabilize the ammonia and nitrite.... then after reading and looking up forums and similar problems i realized I wasn’t helping the ACTUAL cycle. That’s when i started using the stabilizer chem ( its produced by seachem and called stabilizer) the bottle said it helps the nitrogen cycle and adds good bacteria to boost the cycling of new tanks. It’s a 7 day chem treatment. Also, when i started that treatment i added another 12lb LR to aid in the cycling process.

Now that my water PMs are stable, i am moving to 10gal per week, but still testing daily just to be sure.

Really its all for the Nem, I’m gonna put pics up for another commentor from the beginning until now. As far as I’ve read and researched, every other fish or creature is very “hardy”. I do take that with a grain of salt tho, being as how I’ve been led down the wrong path already.

The only pic I don’t have is the the idiot LFS guy lol
