Best Leds for Chaeto?

I purchased the 150w growstar and while it’s a nice light I’m returning it because the fan is soooooo loud. My tank isn’t quiet by any means but the high pitched whine of this fan is just too much.
Am I the only one that doesn't run his refugium during the day in his bedroom or something? Where do you guys have your tanks and when do you run your refugium that this is an issue? Mine runs in my office down the hall while I'm sleeping, not my bedroom. Can't hear it unless I'm in my office, leave the door wide open.

My tank is in the dining room which is right next to the living room, kind of open floor plan. This is a ranch style house and the way the hall is laid out it like funnels this high pitched fan all the way down the hall into the bedroom at night. Drives me nuts. I figured it would be maybe kessil loud or laptop fan loud, but it’s just too loud and whiny for me.

Gotcha, makes sense then. You could switch out the stock fan for a similar wattage pc fan. They make some dead silent ones for pretty cheap.

Ive had the Growstar 150w for 2 weeks now on my brand new tank. Its a beast. I've got like 2 volley balls of Chaeto at the moment and started with 2 soft balls.

the 150 watt over my new Triton sump set up can’t wait to see how it does !

This is what I picked up. No fan. 100w wall draw, supposedly. Haven’t tried it on chaeto yet since my tank isn’t wet [emoji20]

I transitioned from the Eshopps Curve fuge LED to the Kessler H80 a few days ago and I’m already seeing uptick in growth from my previously stagnant cheato and reduction in some algae. My bio load isn’t super high in my Reefer 425 so The H80 has been perfect.

Yea I was checking out this fan

That’s a 1200rpm. They also have a 900 rpm. I wonder how much air is really needed for this light.
You can check the specs of the current fan and compare. Also rpm isn't as important as the amount of air moved. I guarantee the noctua fan moves way more air at the same rpm. Just FYI I used this style on my canopy. The industrial ip67 (water/dust resistant rating) version.

Any noctua is a good fan though. The sso/sso2 bearings will greatly reduce noise. Your still going to hear stuff moving regardless but no parts whining like they are currently.

Case is a giant heat sink, so no fan required.

I have some air flow for the cabinet so temps shouldn’t be an issue. We will see about reliability.

Haha wow that thing is huge! Yeah that should be sufficient although sometimes a heatsink can keep the led too hot if not cooled properly and those look like big leds. The airflow for the cabinet should be helpful though. I'm sure it's fine.

Comes in single COB version too. I think they're 100W typical red/blue COB chips, running at 50W each, so 100W total draw. I have an inline 4" fan pumping air into the cabinet to deal with temp/humidity.
