Best light bar?

i personally think the BML bars were the best made. Unfortunately the pot growing business got too lucrative and they dropped their reef lights. I did use Reef Brote XHO 50/50 along with a blue only bar for several years as my only lights and they worked well.

I just ordered two 60” reef breeders. I have a 6’ tank with 3’ depth as well. I needed a 60” bar and not go with a bunch of smaller ones to add up. Not enough plugs. I got the royals and the uv ones. The other part of them is that down the line I can add their adapter to make them dimmable.

I think you will like these. Report back or make a thread with your feedback when you have them up and running. Most of the glory goes to Reefbrites and Orphek when it comes to LED bars so it would be nice to hear about the Reedbreeders.

Is there a way to use the adapter if you don't have a controller? Their description just mentions having an Apex or something similar.

Will do! I am very excited to try them out!

Not sure. I will see when they come in. Couldn’t get ahold of anyone at ReefBreeders.

GHL has lightbars too... I have 2 of the deep actinics but they arent installed yet. They are going in as supplements to my 7206's. Theres a few people on here that have them. Try doing a search for them. I'll tag @Lasse as I know he them on his tank.

Yes I have them as my primary light source. You can use them in two ways - with an profilux computer or stand alone. In stand alone they will run 100 % on all channels. You do need a fancy P4 to regulate them - the rather cheap Profilux light WiFi can handle them if you want to regulate them but they works very well as standalone too

They use RGB LED (together with others) and this give a rather white light even with the deep actinic This is the spectra for a Mitras LED bar 2 -120 Deep Actinic . Do not be fooled of the 18 400 K. It gives your a impression of much whiter light when you look at them during real life because the RGB LEDs

Once again - the deep actinic give your head an impression of more white than the 18000 K indicate because of the RGB trick. Still you have a beautiful "pop" with that light

You need a bar of the length you prefer, a power module and a splitter (if you use 2-4 bars on the same power module)

I have 2 pcs 120 Deep Actinic, 1 pcs 120 Actinic and one 110 Ocean Blue.

I did a PAR reading back in early 2019 of my aquarium and I use a Li-Cor LI 250-A with underwater sensor. The figures was better than I expected. Measurements taken around 7 cm from the front window. All channels at 100%

The light is rather alike T5 tubes evenly spread but gives also some "shimmer" but no disco effect at all

Its maybe not the cheapest solution but IMO - its the best :D what I know of at least

Very interesting! I just read the Profilux light WiFi will handle any dimmable or non dimmable lights. I wonder if this would help the guys that have non-dimmable Orpheks?

Except for on/off you need a dimmable driver which they don't use.

The drivers Orpheks use exist as dimmable too. You just have to change into that type of driver that accept a 1-10 V signal - after that you can use the P light to dim the bars

So even though they say dimmable and non dimmable, I would need to get the driver anyway?

It have the possibility to manage dimmable through the 1-10V outlet (L1 - 4) and to handle non-dimmable through on/off and using of a powerbar (4 outlets). If you want to handle on/off - you use the powerbar - if you want to use dimmable - you use the 1-10V outlet. If you have a non dimmable ballast to your LEDs you can switch that to a dimmable and use the dimmable function on P Light WiFi.

So you have to get an additional power bar if you have non dimmable lights?

Thanks lasse! It seems the mitras light bar is to be used as a stand alone light source. How do you figure it would perform if hung from the ceiling and paired with a hybrid or t5 unit?

Reefbrite was first to market. I bought 2 of these strips and ran them everyday for 7 years until 4 days ago. They were replaced by a single XHO. The new leds run much cooler and I like the new color temperature of the blues. They really make the coral pop. Check out their facebook for pics of what I speak of. On the down side, I'll admit that the paint job sucks! I flipped the location of the braces and paint started chipping. I run them under canopies so this is not a concern to me. It might be for you.

They are the closest to T5 tubes I have seen according to light mix and even spread. You can have them hanging but I would prefer to have them the way that I have them - just around 7 - 10 cm above the surface. They are rather wide angle - (120 degree I think) therefore you will have to much spread if they are hang to high. With T5 tubes - you can always use reflektors to narrow done the spread - not possible with these bars. They do not have individual lenses - therefore you will not have any disco effects. You will have some disco with orphek bars as an example (I have tested) caused of the separate lenses. these bars (Mitras) perform best if they are close to the surface IMO. And their freshwater bar is an excellent refugium light)

So any updates on the Reefbreeders?

Not yet. I’m out of the country at the moment and won’t be back until October. I will try to post an update with coral growth. Was trying to dial in my Par levels in the tank when I left, but just ran out of time to get complete readings. Overall the bars added about 50 par in the areas the could reach.
