That statement is wrong in so many ways.
That statement is wrong in so many ways.
The reason that statement is wrong is that T5's will work fine with SPS, and you can use MH for LPS without any problems.
I actually switched a 75 gallon tank from MH (dual 400 watt), to a a 8x54 T5 setup so I had more light for my SPS corals. My par measurements at the waters surface when up by 50%.
So saying you need MH for SPS and T5's are best for LPS is completly wrong.
Kim
Yes we did take par measurements in different parts of the tank, and in all of them the par was higher with the T5's than with the MH's. In some areas front and back corners, there was about 2 times the par. The hole tank is more evenly lit with the T5s.
Faviafreak,
You are correct then. If you are keeping SPS the best is MH and for LPS the best is T5. I guess it has nothing to do with the light requirements of the corals in question, or the cost of the lighting or power bill or heat generation or anything else, it is just that for sps MH is the best and for LPS t5 is best.

wow didnt mean to start a fight here.........

not at all, once your around long enough you will see how drama is always playing out on the boards, reefers in general are passionate about their beliefs, I just appreciate the fact they we are able to hash them out in a mature way and for Rev giving us the forum in which to be so passionate without putting on the handcuffs so to speak![]()
