Hey everyone,

the battle of the Dino’s has beaten me into submission I cannot take it anymore. I’m breaking down my tank and building it back up. The biggest mistake I ever made was starting with dry rock. I will NEVER make that mistake again. Any suggestions on some good websites that sell live rock ? So far I’m looking at the gulf live rock.com ? Any others you suggest? I only have a 15g tank. Thanks !

Overall loved my KP Aquatics LR. Being a nano reefer I do wish I'd talked to them a bit about the size of rock that was shipped. It was mostly large pieces, but after many rescapes I did finally get it all to a point I was happy about.

That's how it looked the day it went in.

I was overall happy with KP Aquatics. I had 10 pounds shipped in water that I added to my tank about a year ago. You almost forget what the good LR from the ocean looks like until you add some of that stuff.

High probability it will come with hitchhikers, good and unwanted. I still have a small mantis shrimp that came in on mine. He doesn't bother anybody in the tank. Not sure what he sustains himself with. Year later he's still clicking away in there.

There was a big worm in mine too that I thought might have been a fireworm. It was probably just a big bristle, but I did remove it. There may have been a gorilla grab in there. Haven't seen him in forever. Maybe the mantis ate him.

Edit: The cool part is that the rock doesn't get covered in weird algaes like the fake, dry rock does. I had real reef rocks in there for 2 years caked in cyano or hair algae. The KP rocks never grew that stuff.

I would contact all of them and find out what delivery schedules are like. Have to imagine the recent hurricane has things delayed still.

The 55 gallon I have with 50/50 KP aquatics rock and artifical rock I have never seen nuisance algae. The 55 gallon I have in another room that is a mixture of live rock from lfs and dead rock from facebook marketplace is an algae choked nightmare.

KP aquatics shipped me their "base rock" which was covered in coraline, fan worms, had a bunch of mithrax crabs and a couple sea cucumbers. Ive found bristle stars and stuff in the tank since I assume also came with the rock. 10/10 will buy again when I have an excuse.

We are processing orders as fast as possible...no UPS delays and a week delay for air cargo.
Check us out Tampa Bay Saltwater Live Rock.

I like KPA live rock. The shapes are much nicer than gulf live rock.

That rock does look awesome. Here's what we offer that's definitely different from what you have there.......

Australian Live Rock

The last order from Gulf livestock was fire. Amazing coralline and macro algae on it.

I can second this. I literally just got mine 2 days ago. No bad hitchhikers found yet, a bunch of micro stars. Rocks have good color and arrived seemingly very fresh.

If you want the very maximum amount of biodiversity, Tampa Bay Saltwater is great. I will say that KP rock has slightly better shapes than the TBS stuff, but if you are adding it primarily for life and bacteria, TBS will be the best choice. You could also try Salty Bottom Reef Company, or the aforementioned KP Aquatics rock.

Understand your frustration and you are making a wise move

as you can tell from above both companies are reputable and well supported by the forum. Have used KP several times and I am considering a drive down to Tampa and picking some up and driving at home. Not that I need it, I just love all of the additions that come with it.
As to size and shape, I have had good experience with Philip at KPF you let them know what you need. In addition being close to an airport might help with the conditions of the shipment.
and in all of the pieces that I’ve placed in tanks over the years, this is the only hitchhiker that I have had to move to its own tank. And it’s a great addition to that tank. Best of luck
