I have now clue about photo taking...My friend (also fellow reefer) has a really nice Sony camera..we were looking into maro lenses..but have no clue what im looking for or what 30mm-200mm means??..or what takes the best pic??...any help would be great!

You are looking for a true MACRO/MICRO lens. But the most important number to look for is 1:1 ratio.

Many lenses say macro/micro on them, and in fact arent.

first off, no macro lens will "zoom"

they will be a "prime" lens, with a fixed focal length.

i.e. 60mm, 90mm, 105mm, 150mm, 200mm

Tamron | SP 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro Autofocus Lens | AF272M700 | B&H

the description on this one doesnt mention sony, but many reviews mention using it on a Sony A700.

This lens has excellent optical quality, and its tops in this price range for a sony DSLR. Also, the working distance of it is perfect for reefers.
