So with a Somatic 60s sump and a 40 gallon breeder tank, which of these pumps would suit me the best? The stand I'm going to build will be a standard 30" tall.

I've read the Lifegard is made by Sicce, so why the price difference? What makes one cheaper than the others? I'm also going to be using 2 MP40s for flow so do I even need a return pump at 500gph+?

Just a suggestion, why not a DC pump? DC pumps are very quite and can also be regulated for speed/GPH;)

Not too worried about ac or dc pumps but the Pro series ones are adjustable with a dial. Just doing some research and these came up. Not to mention I don't feel I need to spend $200+ on a return pump.

You can adjust with a valve on the output side also.

I've always heard good things about the Sicce Synchra Silent pumps, I think the other two can be a bit noisy if you don't position them correctly in the sump. I personally considered getting one of the smaller Synchra Silent pumps for my aquarium but went for the Jebao DC-2000 (now DCS-2000) pump instead for the cost savings and DC controllability.

I have used the 2200 quiet one pump for like 3 years with no problems at all. It can be loud if sitting up agains the side of my sump, but other than that a solid
Pump. But I use a sincce on my ca reactor and have zero problems after its first year so I don't think You can go wrong.

Ok after talking with the stay at home wife/mother she said as silent as possible of the 3. So I just ordered the Sicce Syncra Silent 2.0 pump. Thanks for the advice guys.

Eek. The Syncra Pro is their most quiet.....same design as the Quiet One.....2200 would have gotten my vote, but I'm too late! Noooooooooooooooo! ;Sorry

(Quiet One's used to be made by Sicce but are now made in China. Same design, same warranty. From-China price! :) And they really are q u i e t.)

..... And before that Grundfos ..... Silent, though not long lived and debatably salt water safe.

Yes correct but Sicce designed their own impeller and I believe they use neodymium magnets vs ferrite in the quiet one.
What’s interesting is that the Quiet one is not getting the same reviews as the Sicce pro. I believe that has to do with the impeller design.

Just put them on a silicone place mat.

Interesting! I've never heard that. (So much hear-say – I like it, but where does it all come from???) Even if so I don't think it amounts to a performance difference. I think the flow curves for their respectively comparable models match. (Don't they?)

I know QO did switch at some point to using one-piece impeller/magnet/shaft's where my old impellers were more typical half-plastic, half-magnet with a separate shaft. It could be that they did this due to the presence of neodymium (which corrodes badly in saltwater) – but I don't know. Since they're being made in China where Nd is cheap(er) and prevalent, I guess that sorta raises the likelihood at least a little bit, but doesn't really tell us. Not sure one way or the other on the Sicce impellers in this respect.

@mcarroll After some investigating the Quiet one pro now use neodymium as well.
Smaller models use ferrite, same with Sicce.

For pumps at that flow level, I'd consider Eheim 1260. Quiet and last almost forever.

Seriously, where does this info come from??
I would post pictures but then there would a ton of them. All I did was google search QO replacement impeller and did the same for the Sicce and you will see the smaller models will have ferrite and larger models are neodymium , the same goes for the syncras. What’s interesting is that the normal syncras impeller packaging also says for Sicce pro model xxxx as well;)
