Best Option for Overflow

Because all things being equal, a 1” drain can carry all the flow a 3/4” drain could. However, the 3/4” drain can NOT carry what a 1” drain can. Therefore, the larger pipe being the backup ensures you don’t have a flood.
Makes total sense. I am about to order my plumbing as we speak! Thanks for the help!
 
They also make something called a maggie muffler. Ive used them before on durso style overflows they work pretty good. You can diy them too but they dont cost that much. Thinking about doing that on my 180 instead of going herbie this time.
 
Quick question to anyone who has used the herbie overflow. Do you have to re-adjust your valve each time you shut off your return pump or does it just take forever and a day to actually restart itself? Mine didn't seem like it was ever going to get back up to the emergency pipe.
