Which is the better option maxspect etheral or AI prime 16 hd

It depends on what you are using it for.

How big a tank? What will be in the tank in the long run?

And allow me to say, "Welcome to Reef2Reef!"

Welcome to R2R!!! The AI 16HD I believe is maxed out on spread at 18"x18". You would need at least 2 of them depending on what you want to keep.

Welcome to R2R!!! They are both solid lights and it depends on which is the best choice for your system.

I got a 3 feet mixed reef tank

With a 3' tank you could also consider a sinle longer fixture rather than needing two of the ones you asked about. Several companies do 32" led fixtures. I happen to us Reef Breeders Photon V2+. Lots of PAR, good looks, sunrise/sunset capable and 6 channels of color control. And they are a sponsor here, so they have a forum where you can ask questions and they do a great job of helping out.

My old 2' cube (right) with a 16" Photon V2 in front and a cheap all blue 24" fixture behind it.

Notice the bluer color at the back of the tank? That's from the second fixture. To my eye this makes the tank look bigger front to back and it also looks more like reality if you ever been diving or snorkeling.
