Best overall led fixture

The strange contradiction actually had just occurred to me as I was writing up the satirical post. (Meant to be funny not trying to spark a debate).

I agree the Philips fixture looks like a very good option. If I were in the market I’d be giving it heavy consideration.
I thought it was funny..
Of course as is human nature better to get something and not use it than not get something and then want it.. in THEORY.. ;)

You just talk about cloud cover feature and Orphek recommend to use the strong cloud option in the schedule. This is what they said in response in a post « Corals need to exchange oxygen when there is high Par , so we create the could mode. this will drop the intensity every 15 minuets for 5 minuets . this is very important for corals in order to grow fast and get better color. »

This is true or not ?

I want to hear other opinions before replying. Please explain 'exchange oxygen' ... Don't get me wrong, I think Ophek makes good products.

I've ran Oprhek Atlantik V4 Compact Gen2 for a couple years... I do not recommend them. I continually have LED diodes either burn out or burn the lens to the point where they are fogged up. These are the 440nm, 460nm and couple other UV diodes.
To their credit, Orphek sent me replacement diodes free each time it happened even though the lights are 2+ years old. But it is a hassle having to solder to replace diodes. I did that with Chinese black boxes to make them more blue... but I shouldn't have to mess with "high end" lights costing $700.
Also, maybe and hopefully they have sourced better LED diodes. Will see in a year or two.

Sorry for your issues you've had. I wonder if others had the same problem

Problems with the Atlantik and the strip lights of theirs have been heavily documented on here lately

Great to know, thank you. I'll probably scratch them off the list unless they come out with an upgraded unit.

I don’t now if it’s true, but I write to Orphek about that, and they said that they improved the LEDs so this should not be a future issue.

Good to hear thanks! I'll definitely look into this further.

ReeFi Duo Extreme!

ReeFi Duo Extreme!

Good point to return to the initials questions and yes Reefi extreme is a good choice too

I'm looking to go from t5 to led and wanted to know what the best overall led light fixture is (budget aside). I don't really know much about led fixtures and it appears there's a lot of mixed reviews out there. This includes penetration, color, WiFi ability... Or anything else you feel makes a fixture better than another.

It would really help if you include your top three or so.

Thank you!
Why are you switching from T5?

Electrical costs, swapping out bulbs, my 8 bulb sunpower is pretty big compared to led, More control over the lights/colors, ramping

Just curious how long ago was that? A lot of complaints seem to be fairly recent

Not trying to change the intent of the post at all, but new and curious. I went with the SB Reef Light Ultra. Seemed to me to be a good budget option considering the expense of initial set up and it got great reviews when I was researching. Had some customer service issues and the app sucks, but my initial impression is that I love the color and intensity it kicks out. Completely not tested yet as I’m still cycling. But, how do experienced reefers out there think this light fits into the options listed so far? Totally, get that the subject is “Best Light”.

I use Mars Aqua and they grow everything I want to grow and work great for me but like this copied statement , its pretty accurate , In the end , its up to you ! Most all Reef LEDS these days work pretty well and are reliable .

Haven't seen GHL mentioned. I've been running mine for two years and love them.

I ran a Kessil A360w over my 60 cube for years and that led to me running 2 AP700's over my 220. I expect to add some T5's once I buy some real corals and have to worry about shading lol! Right now I just have a few LPS and they're doing well down to the sand bed with the Kessil's only at 51% on a 30" deep tank. I will admit, I love the Kessil shimmer and that was a key buying point for me. It's not quite like scuba diving, but as close as I've seen in a fish tank.

All that being said, the AP700's have been out for a while, so there's likely something that's better bang for the buck or just simply superior.
