So I'm looking at doing a 195 gallon custom tank and was looking at several overflow boxes. I have read a lot of bad reviews about synergy boxes and found the modular marine boxes. I need to do a 1.5" overflow box. Which one is the best? Quietest?

If you are doing a custom tank, can the builder make an overflow for you?

They can, it's planet aquariums however the make them out of glass. I prefer not to have a glass one due to weight

In reality it's only going to save you about 5-10 pounds and on a tank that's more than likely going to be pushing 6-700 pounds 10 pounds isn't all that much...

However a permanent external overflow will have to be factored into the overall width of the tank when you consider getting it into your house.

Modular marine, Exotic Marine Systems and Fiji Cube are all excellent manufacturers to look into other than synergy..

Thank you haven't heard of Fiji Cube, but they look nice. I was looking at exotic, but they don't make 1.5" drains on smaller boxes, I emailed them to see if they could make it work. I am doing a peninsula tank with a 26" back which limits me a little. Of the 3 which is your top pick?

What about this? This is what I think I’m going to get for my 180 build coming up. I was told by another user to use this

They have different sizes to match your needs

I have no personal experience with either of them to be honest but they all have excellent reviews and I've heard great things about all of them, Fiji Cube are the newer ones on the block, Modular Marine you might be waiting a bit. I believe all of them will do custom boxes so your situation shouldn't be an issue with any of them.

Take a look at Reef Savvy’s overflows. The craftsmanship is excellent.

Reef Savvy overflows are only available on Reef Savvy and Miracles Aquariums Tanks, you cannot order them separately anymore. :)

Really like the clear acrylic on the Fiji, thanks for the input

Any time, I went through the same thing you are right now last year when I ordered my custom tank, I had the option to get the Reef Savvy Overflow but opted for a glass external one instead.

Any good custom sump companies you recommend? I just got a quote for. 60*20*20 for $3000 I think that's way overpriced

Are you looking for glass or acrylic? And for that size of sump, depending on the features it's probably not absolutely crazy...

Well you've got Advanced Acrylics, Synergy, Elite Aquatics, MRC, Lifereef, GEOs Reef just to name a few. Jeff at Lifereef will probably be the most reasonable price wise and his products are one of the best, there are a couple that will probably be a little more "flawless" but IMO you won't beat the price...

I may have to suck it up then lol

I'm sure you might get a better quote if you ask around, it doesn't hurt to try anyway. The issue with a sump that size is well.... it's size. It's not small atall which requires thicker material and obviously more of it. If it makes you feel a little better, the 46" x 20 x 15" sump I just ordered is landing around the $3500 mark
