I need some input! I have a 600 gallon 1” acrylic tank which I bought used. It is a peninsula style with a full height weir. It is predrilled for two 1.5” bulkheads. Previous owner ran dual Dursos. There is plenty of room in the overflow real estate that I can drill a third whole. So....what would be best??? Keep with dual Dursos or perhaps Stockmans? Hernia style 1.5” or drill third whole for Bean Animal?

I am planning running this tank at 4-6x turnover per hour. 1.5” gravity fed PVC should flow about 1400 gph. So to me it seams the dual Dursos or Stockmans should run about 2800 gph which would fall within 4-6x. Do you all see it any other way?

This answer is purely opinion, and I'm sure there will be others posted, but here goes.
I would never run any tank drain as an open channel style drain. Meaning Durso and Stockman are out. The reason is that when air is allowed to go down the drain, there will always be 1) noise, and 2) bubbles entering in the sump.
The bubbles are the biggest concern (since the noise can be mitigated to a certain extent) because the bubbles are entering the first chamber of the sump, and those bubbles will eventually cause salt creep all over the place, and could even make it to other areas of the stand. The salt spray also raises the humidity under the stand and will help corrode everything inside, like electronics, electrical, and equipment. This alone makes it not worth it to me.
The other issue with open channel drains is that they tend to cause more evaporation because of the salt spray, bubbles, and extra humidity.
This might not seem like a huge issue for some, but when your display is 600g. evaporation is a major concern. For my ~400 gallon system evap. is about 15 gallons per week, yours will likely be double that (depending on several other factors).

Short answer is Herbie, or Bean Animal is the only way to go, especially on a large system.

Hope this helps, happy reefing.

Hernia style? That's what you get from lifting the tank.

Durso is to bean as horse drawn cart is to performance sports car .......

I completely missed the Hernia!! This made me almost spit coffee on my computer!

Great analogy between drains and sports cars as well. Couldn't agree more.
