I'm building an 8' 300 Peninsula Style Tank, and I need to make the decision on my overflow. I do not run a lot of flow through my sumps, I do not anticipate going over 1500 GPH.

Synergy Reef 16" Shadow?

Reef Savvy Ghost, doesn't look like they are even selling them anymore although I did send a message to them today inquiring?

Modular Marine?

What do you think?

I think I would put a much larger one on there. I undersized mine and had to remedy it.

My tank builder made their version of the ghost, but if you look around, you can find a ghost

Check out Exotic Marine too. Well built and better design with the external box sitting a little higher which helps avoid a waterfall noise.

I could make you a 3' version of the ghost overflow. Toothless is where it is at!! No noise and no difficult cleaning!

Presumably, if it’s a peninsula, the internal skim box will go on one end? How wide/deep is the tank? That will determine how long the skim box can be. 1,500 gph is still sizable flow (that’s about where I am in my 450). Most of the commercial units do better if you don’t push them too close to their stated max. I’m usIng a modular marine on my tank and have been very happy with it. Just pick one where the external box sits at the same height as the skim box.

The tank is 96 x 30 x 24H.

The main viewing panel and the right hand panel will be viewable. The tank is going in the wall, with a big fish room behind it.

The left panel I would like to put the overflow and the powerhead. 2-4 MP40's, 2 MP10's, XF350 Gyre on either side at the top as well.

Return flow again 1500 is like way more than I will actually run. I typically run 3x turnover through the sump in my other tanks.

30” isn’t a lot to work with (plus the ID will be less than that). You’re likely going to find surface skimming problematic with some surface almost 8’ feet from the overflow. Also, MP40s just aren’t that powerful and will struggle to give you acceptable flow 4’ out, let alone 8’. My tank is 96x36x30H and I get good skimming with a 36” skim box handling 1,500 gph along the center of the rear panel. I have four MP60 for internal flow and surge.

Check fijicube.com

I will be using two 800gph (one on each end of my 240) I am using one on my 93 currently and it works perfectly.

I cannot say enough about Will and his products.

My gyre 350 can move sand on the other end of my 6' tank. I would definitely go with a more laminar flow design for a long peninsula

I'm incorporating two. One on the left which will have to sit below the overflow box, and other right at the top of the right viewing pane.

I still have time to move the overflow to the back glass if I want. But I wanted that panel unobstructed so I had a different view from the fish room. Almost like a 3 side viewable peninsula, but the 3rd side is just for me lol.

That is exactly how my new inwall tank is going to be. Not having an opaque background really opens up the aquarium. I think with the gyres you will be more than happy with the amount of surface skimming.
