I have read a little bit about Beananimal's dead silent overflow. Is this the best technique hands down or are there other ways that work just as well?

depends entirely on your needs? if silence is golden then yes, as far as the "ultimate end all overflow"? Id say no

Explain please.... I swear by the external c2c with beans set up I have built numerous tanks and nothing compares....

I wouldn't mind an explanation as well! If I ever have one built, I want to find out everything I can about this.

I keep hearing that! I think I will go with that design over any of the others.

I have a stockman standpipe in the overflow and a reverse durso on the outlet in the sump. It is very quiet.

oops, just saw this lol, simple logic really, the c2c isn't all that new a concept and it was "all that" in its beginning, the Bean animal is a very nice compliment to it and yes its quiet but.... it has no detritus pick up from lower areas of the tank, half the battle in a tank is getting the muck out and a c2c is a surface skimmer imo so yeah its good but perfection as usual is "in the eye of the beholder"

Personally I don't like silent

The soft trickling of my overflows is very soothing to listen to.

My wife was not feeling well and laid down on the couch;
she told me it was relaxing to listen to the water trickling
and far nicer than listing to a quiet house.

I would think it's next to impossible to create a totally silent tank, always be some trickling going on!
