I'm no expert and at times I do things a little different. When I have multiple lights often I will not run them together. For example I have a section of one tank that has monti caps so the lights above them are cranked and the other lights above lps and softies are lower par. Its not as simple as running them all together at the same setting but allows me to have more light where it's needed and the same with lower light and depending on the tank layout it can be easier at times to change individual lights vs moving corals. I even have a single light in the middle that comes on low by itself early for feeding fish and stays on late for watching stuff before bed.
This is some good advice. Whenever I run more than 2 lights on a tank, I always group the "end" lights together, and then the "middle" light(s) run separately. All the lights run the same color mix and schedule, but I run the middle lights at a lower overall intensity to combat the natural hotspot from light overlap. You get a much more even looking PAR map that way.
