I've been looking for some different clams and they seem to be hard to find. Where is the best place to find some nice clams?

I have three and they all came from local reefers. I know one of my three was originally from the divers den on liveaquaria.com

Bigger clams (2+ inches) are able to handle shipping but I would try to not have one shipped smaller than that.

I've had luck with a few of our great sponsors. I'd check out Aqua SD and ReefKoi first and see what they have. I'd stay away from the French Poly Maxima's though, I haven't had any luck at all with them.

+1 to Pacific East. They attend our Frag swap and have some killer pieces. I cannot wait for them to come back to get another one.

I also agree with Pacific East. I also would not purchase anything smaller than 2".

pacific east. just ordered one from them a few days ago. Clam is beautiful, best price probably you can get too. It was $150 for for a 5 inch super ultra grade maxima Tahitian clam. or you can take the $25 to live stock. shipping is cheaper than most other places too. after you recieve the animal they do a follow up call to make sure everything good. packing is great, triple packed with lots of air. Styrofoam and good care gone into shipping.

I've never had any luck with the large Maxima's from French Polynesia, you couldn't give me one no matter how beautiful it is.

I would look at your LFS 1st. If you don't have a good one, I recommend these online sources:

vividaquariums.com
coralprops.com
aquasd.com
pacificeastaquaculture.com
barrierreefaquariums.com

live aquaria has some nice ones and some of them arent too expensive either. i got a turquise maxima around 1 1/2 inches from them for like $70 and its doing great. i dont trust the large maricultured clams either as i havent had success with them either :/

Every clam i have ever bought was locally. I have heard horror stories of clam shipping go wrong and cant just bring myself to try it. If i remember right, there was a giveaway a while back on here for a huge 11 or 12" clam and it died in transit

Wow, that's awful.

We used to keep clams in our DT and purchased a couple of small ones from Pacific East Aquaculture without issue.
