Best practice for Paint vs Salt Water Evap?

Raw timber. Untreated. Indoors. Overhead canopy... Thoughts?

Prime then paint?

Oil?

Sealant?

Stain?

Deck Stain?

Clear lacquer over the paint?

Spray paint it and Fahhhgedddaboutit?

2 coats killz2 primer then 2 coats of a good quality 100% acrylic topcoat. I used Glidden pro from Lowe’s. Matt finish works just as well as high gloss, but gloss just looks more waterproof.

Anyway, that’s what I did on the wall above my tank and all the walls and ceiling in my fishroom.

I used powder coated aluminum for top frame, a sheet of 3/8" sheet PVC for a top, 1" PVC square stock for side frames and cloth for front and side 'curtains'. My wife and I both liked the way the light fixture 'lit up' the fabric. Had it for 7+ years and never had an issue. Oh, no paint or sealer to fail...

Acrylic topcoat paint here. Two coats is what I do on my stands. Paint usually protects wood better than other finishes.
