Yesterday was the first time ive received a shock from a tank. I think once in 8 years is pretty good. With my daughter showing interest in the hobby i want to make sure this never happenes again. So im hoping alot of my fellow reefers add to this post so we can come up the best preventive measure for getting shocked. The best thing ive come up with is a gfci that my power strip is plugged into and a ground probe that will be plugged into the gfci. If something has a stray voltage the probe should pick it up and trip the gfci. I hope the community can come together and discuss this problem so we can make this hobby as safe as we can.

They do sell a grounding probe for the tank itself that can go in your sump or display... that'll help keep you and your fish inside the tank safer...

I think you have basically hit on the answer. A GFCI on anything "wet", and a grounding probe. The combination of the two will reduce the odds of dangerous current levels going through you imho.
