I have an 80 gallon rimless with approximately 25 gallons in the sump. Currently I have the vertex in-100 but I'm looking to invest in a better skimmer. My tank is all sps, so with that said what would you said is the best protein skimmer for around 105-110 total gallons but that is also under $450 or so. I was looking at the octopus super reef 1000 but I'm open to other suggestions, of course. Thanks for the input!

i have a reef octopus diablo on my tank right now. near as makes no difference to 100 US Gallons when you factor in the sump. the skimmer is rated for up to 250.

it does an excellent and i have no complaints about it, except for that it is a bit loud. but then again, it is a beast, so not entirely surprising.

I think I'm going to go with the Super Reef Octopus 1000 or 2000. The SRO1000 is up to 125 gallons and the SRO2000 is up to 180. My tank is all SPS. I'm wondering if I should go slightly bigger or play it safe and just go with the 1000, thoughts?

Thanks for the replies by the way.

MongoBongo, I thought about going with the Diablo... I've just heard better things coming from the SRO series

Sounds good.

I would probably go a little bigger. Just to future proof it a bit. Unless you're sure you will never get a larger tank. :)
