I am trying chloroquine phosphate for my quarantine. I have heard that it is easier than copper and less stressful for the fish. However, it can be hard to get as it requires a prescription in the United States. @Humblefish is the person to ask about quarantine and all things medicaton related.

Check out this thread from humblefish as well.

IMO; There are some species of fish you never want to use copper on: Sharks, rays, lionfish, puffers, seahorses, dragonets. Basically, no scaleless or prehistoric fish.

And there there are angels & wrasses which you can use copper on, but you should raise it very slowly (4-5 days). Actually, raising copper slowly is a good idea no matter what fish you are treating. Only go from zero to full therapeutic with copper when faced with Marine Velvet Disease, as the risk from that disease outweighs the danger of immediate copper exposure.

Why do you say no to Lionfish or puffers? I have done it multiple times with no issue.

What kind of copper? Ionic (Cupramine) or chelated (Coppersafe, Copper Power)? Back in the day I successfully treated some lionfish with straight chelated, but always ended up killing them with ionic.

All I have ever used is cupramine. I have learned the hard way with wrasses in the past, but I used in on my lions and puffers.

Interesting. Will have to retest those species in Cupramine sometime in the future.

I know I have done zebra and volitan lions. I believe it was a dog faced puffer I had at the time too.

My key was slow dosing, constant monitoring, and always ready with cuprisorb and for a water change.
