Best Reason for Expensive Powerheads?

I used to think that about Gyres also. I have 4 of them and it used to take me hours to clean them. Well... I guess it still does but most of it is soak time. Mine came in nice metal containers. I lined one of them with a heavy plastic bag. I fill it with vinegar, unplug a gyre, and put it in the container. 2 hours later I pull it out and put it back in the tank. I should probably rinse it, but I don't. This is the only maintenance I've done for well over a year and I haven't had an issue. I used to have bushing noise issues and those stopped when I switched to cleaning them this way. I try to do it once every month but sometime it gets to 2.

This is interesting.

I use a pair Maxspec Gyres for flow. I find them easy to clean now that I stopped taking them apart. I drop them in a plastic container with a tight lid. Acetic acid in the container and I just run them like they were still in the tank for 30 minutes.
For return pumps I run a pair of Jebaos that are 3 times larger than necessary at 40% speed. 2 years without a failure. Even so, I have a backup in a box. One of the return pumps is on a battery backup, so I think I'm pretty well covered.

In general:

But like with any manufactured product, sometimes you get a badly made, defective pump, even from the top quality manufacturers. This is where customer service makes the difference.

I have had Nero for about a year now. It runs great, no problems, quiet, it is fairly easy to program. I noticed my corals and fish like the varying currents it creates, more like ocean wave action.

I know your not running jeboa but there is a guy on ebay that makes something he calls the JBwave. Which gives a ton of extra control to those power heads.

Not sure if this was brought up but RESALE. Someone posted the other day, two used MP40's manufacture date 2015 - $250. A few hours later both where sold.
