Best RODI unit

I have been out of the reef game for about 5 years and i am now going to be setting up a tank again. It will most likley be a 210 gal. I already have. I used to use the vertex RODI unit but im pretty sure they dont exist any longer. I would want something that produces 150 gal. a day and would be able to handle the 450 plus tds in my well water. Any help would be appreciated.

Me and my friends have only had issues with the brs. Spend the money and get an aquaFx. No issues going on 5 years. I love my system and it handles the awful water we have in south Florida no problem.

I use airwaterice. com Idk if there's any such thing as best RO/DI unit. They all do pretty much the same thing with no moving parts. The shark tooth fittings are sweet and easy to hook up. Ordering new filters is easy and they're pretty cheap. BRS will sell you one too. I don't know what they send you but I've bought a couple units from air water ice over the years and have been very happy. The newer ones have inline pressure meters and TDS meters that would be nice. I might be buying a third one before long.

Now thats saying something. I know all about the water in South Florida. I grew up there oh the smell of rotten eggs and sulfur during your morning shower what a way to wake up..lol

Im still running the vertex 200gpd and i love it, the auto flush is a god send! get something with a booster pump, high incoming pressure will save you on DI in the long term. SoCal water is just as bad, full of sediment and the vertex unit handles it well, aqua fx makes a similar unit and so does ice cap

Thank you. The ice cap unit looks sweet. The aqua FX looks like a winner also. That was the one thing about the Vertex i loved a lot less waste water and the savings on the DI.

I have not had any issues with my airwaterice unit. When I replace filters I do use brs replacements though. The typhoon system is great.

I believe I used to be a buckeye field supply, I used to buy my diy 2 part from them.

Call Spectrapure or bulk reef supply. I would talk to them and explain your high TDS well water and how much flow you want. You will get exactly what you need and those companies will take care of you.

when you talk to them try to have a current water report and know your water preassure.

Hmm. That system has been around a while - good to see it is still going strong! Looks like you put a carbon block in the left hand housing where the DI originally was. Realize that in order of water flow, that housing comes AFTER the RO membrane. There's not much purpose in using carbon after the membrane but before the DI.

I rerouted the lines to flow through the 3 housings then the ro membrane. Then it flows through the di.

I really need to redo this again. I'm finding that I dont need the 2 carbon blocks anymore. And the 3 di stages is also not needed. I had it setup like this for high tds tap water with chloramines. I'm in a new place that doesn't have those issues.

Yeah i know im probably going to need a booster pump my water pressure is only around 30 psi

You need one psi net driving pressure increase for every 100 ppm TDS over the membrane factory spec.

That is 30psi coming out of ( I’m assuming) a 1/2- 3/4 pipe. When you shrink it down to 1/8” or 1/4” it should give you a hair more from the same amount of water moving through a smaller tube. Mine runs about 80-90psi and I don’t have any issues. My system was a custom order to combat the chlorine in Florida’s water. Two carbon, two sediment, one membrane, and and a floss.
