Best Sand Cleaner 40g

Hi reefers,

I'm looking for any suggestions on a good sand cleaner when I do my water changes. The problem with the current one is that it sucks up the water a little too fast where I won't have time to clean much of the tank sand bed in time.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

I just suck, keeps my mouth muscles sharp

Fill the large part up with water. Lift it higher than the tube end. Keep a finger on the end, and allow the water to go all the way to the end, remove finger slowly to allow the water to flow down. This should fill p the tube. While holding end of tube, refill the large section and it will now begin siphoning.

I never suck nor put the tube in my mouth for cleaning. I only do that when drip acclimating new fish, 1/4 inch tubing is hard to get water siphoning any other way.

Also to get real detailed... I use air line tubing for specific sand cleaning needs!

Any will work. Just cut an angle will allows you to minimize suction force when held staright upwards and and as you close the angle- Suction increases.

You can also bend or kink the hose while siphoning if it is a bit too big. I use the smaller Python w/ the 1" tube and it is perfect for leisurely vacuuming the gravel in my 40g.

To start siphons I bought one of these at the hardware store (originally sold for small engine oil changes) and just have a bunch of fittings for different size hoses. Worked out great today when one of our drain lines wasn't long enough so we just grabbed a garden hose to use as a drain line and pumped until she started flowing.
