Does anyone have any personal favorite specific fish and specific clean up crew that will keep my sand bed nice and clean ? thanks

i have sand sifting starfish, snails, hermit. but i find they only keep an estetic look to the sand (surface clean), they will not keep the sand from accumulating detritus, nothing beats a turkey baster or a periodic syphonning.

I have a 36 gallon tank, I had a diamond watch goby which kept a large section of my sand clean but it died around 2 weeks ago, wanted to go with something new. But besides that I have some nassarius, asteria, 3 diff types of hermit crabs (even though they pretty much do the same thing for the most part. probably 11-14 in total ) , and a conch

More info about your tank (size, livestock, sandbed type/depth) would help.
Nassarius snails, sea stars, conchs, hermits all do a good at keeping sand clean.

Maybe a pistol shrimp + goby? Pistols definitely move some substrate.
What was the cause of the diamond's death?

Sand sifting gobies can suck if you have coral on the bed, I've had them completely cover coral

I have a diamondback gobi that does an excellent job in my 100 gal. I have a sand sifting star that I bought a year after I added the gobi, so I can't say how well it does on its own, but it's been alive 2 years now and is very active.

Well I'm going to say two wav pumps turned up to 100% is the best sand sifting I have ever gotten.

Fish wise I don't know if they do the best job but I have two yasashir gobys that when they do come out I throughly enjoy watching clean the sand.

Diamond goby's are the best but they could arrange your sand bed in a way you might not like. If they find a spot near a coral they like, you might have to move the coral because they will constantly cover it with substrate.

diamond goby's are sifting machines
