So I’ve been wanting a sea star for awhile now but want to make sure I get one that is not going to harm anything in my tank and will also not be harmed.
Clean up crew: various hermits, snails, pincushion urchin
Corals: cespitularia, acropora, green Goniopora
Fish: yellow tang, powder brown tang, yellow tail damsels, oscellaris clownfish, bangaii cardinalfish, Coral beauty, goldenhead goby,

Fish are currently in hospital tank for ich attack which brings me to another question. Are sea stars susceptible to ich or are not harmed by it like all other inverts?

Do they only eat detritus out of the tank? Or do they also take care of algae on the glass? Do you buy your silversides and shrimp at LFS? Or are they available at places like petco? I’ve just never looked for them before so dk if they sell them or not

Also do the color of the sea stars matter? I remember someone told me not to get certain colors but can’t remember what species of sea star they were referring to.

They don’t eat algae, detritus and other foods. Silversides I can get here

And shrimp are raw and unsalted from the grocery store

Fromia stars are great, 2 years in my tank.
Just really take the time in the acclimation process.

Awesome thanks for the info! Would you say you feed more shrimp or silverside? Or just try to keep it pretty balanced.

Can you give me some details on your fromia? What type exactly? Do you feed it anything extra?

I bought it as a fromia tile starfish red/orange in color at a lfs,
Dont feed it anything since I have a lot of rockwork and eats the algae growing on the rock or glass.
Its just not tolerate to large sudden changes in water parameters.

Silversides more than Shrimp. If you do happen to get one, post pics!

Also he is BEAUTIFUL
Thank you. Gonna be a long 2-3 hours. Lol I got home expecting my drip kit to be delivered but it was with another package that needed to be signed for so I’m using a small syringe to manual drip

Serpent sea stars are reef safe and generally do well In home aquariums. They might need some supplemental feeding of silversides and shrimp. They sift sand pretty well.
+1 for the Serpent's, they're cool to watch at night as well!

Serpent and brittle stars are great but they don't go on the glass. I've heard the green ones can eat fish though. I have an orange serpent that looks awesome. Go to the grocery store and get some cheap raw seafood (the stuff I buy is called seafood medley from winco)

Do you have any airline tubing. Just tie a knot
