Best skimmer for a 20g long sump?

I’m gonna be setting up a 65g with a 20 long as a sump using the fiji cube diy kit sold on BRS. When it comes time for a skimmer after cycling, what should I go with?

You should have seen the clunker I had 15 years ago. And E.T S.S. 400. Took FOREVER to dial in. Then it ran really well! This is a screen shot of someone elses.....

Do you know if this will be available at this price in a few months? I won’t need a skimmer during cycling so I’m waiting to spend the money until then

You dont really want to oversize the skimmer. Used to be a thing but people realized it was just inefficient and sometimes the bubbles couldnt get to the top because the neck was too wide.
There are so many skimmers on the market nowadays its hard to decide on the low to mid tier needlewheel skimmers. Reef octopus is always great as are most skimmers using a sicce pump
Top end of these would be an ultra reef skimmer.
I would probably wait on a good sale to buy anything as you are only just setting up the tank and the protein skimmer wont be that useful right now

Icecap K3 100 looks good for your needs and $90 cheaper. Havent used before but I was considering it. I have a Bubble Magus K5 Slim and was impressed with the skimming but did not like the noise, it was kind of a pain to empty, and no DC functionality which I think is a major bonus.

Anyways I moved away from the idea of a skimmer and am going to try a fuge instead. I also have a reactor to run gfo and carbon, atm have a low phosphate issue so I am trying to manage that without having to dose it back.

A different perspective, though I agree with advice above. Do NOt over size the skimmer. It’s very frustrating. I’d actually rather under size it and augment my filtration a little. We tend to do that anyway.

I am a big fan of Tunze skimmers. I have used a lot of skimmers over the years, including some very high end ones, but my last two skimmers have been Tunze dc Comline skimmers. I find them highly consistent, easy to tune, quiet, and low maintenance. I actually modified my Red Sea reefer sump to accommodate one because the water level needed to deeper.

I definitely oversized mine but I feed heavy and had lots of fish. Size to whatever bioload you plan to have vs other export methods, not necessarily how many gallons your tank is.
