Might be a little overkill but a reef octopus 110 internal skimmer is a little bit pricey at 270$ but I can’t recommend reef octopus enough

Maybe not sure how small the sump is. Or do you mean too much skimmer dor the tank? Can always run it on a schedule if need be.

Too much skimmer but yeah it could be run on a schedule

I had a coralife 65 on our 40B with 20G sump that worked well. I found it wasn't easy to find a good size skimmer for a 40 they were either to big or to small but this did great. It's still sitting here collecting dust if your interested.

I’m using a bubble magus curve 5 on my 40 gallon (20 gallon sump). I’m very happy with it.
