Best Skinmer for 30 Gallon Reef

What’s the best skinmer for a 30 gallon reef tank? In sump or HOB. Also, what is the best brand for quiet ??? Trying to make a list of equipment before getting a build started.

I have been very happy with my Tunze 9004. Seems to consistently skim every day.to use in sump though it need to have a high water line so review the max depth unlike I did.

I was considering it, how quiet is it? As it would be going right near my bed, could turn it off at night but don’t want to if I can avoid it

I don't hear it at all. I have the DC version though. Easy to tune and make adjustments.

I have had several HOB skimmers over the years Skittler, AquaC, Reef Octopus, and a few others. The best and the almost dead silent is the AquaMaxx 1.5 I had it on a 40gl cube overstocked. Fantastic skimmer

For your small water volume of 30 gallons, take a look at the IceCap K2-50 as well. It can be used in sump and comes with a detachable mounting bracket for hang on applications as well.
