So im setting up my cal rex this week, and i am looking to get the best test kits to get it tuned perfict, so my question ends up being what would you saggest as the best brand that is most accurate for alk and cal? After reading a little i am leaning tword cal, elos and alk lammont.

Salifert for both. I always check my new kits against the older ones that I'm replacing, and they always match up - consistency.

I head there alk was always off a bit

Definitely LaMotte for Alk. Elos is very good for Calcium, Mg. Salifert is very good for Mg as well.

Not just because we sell them but this is what we use personally as well.

I use the elos alk kit because it is the easiest. For me, its not so much the number, but the stabilty.

Salifert had an issue with one of their lot #'s for Alk. They had made a post on RC to alert users to not use that specific lot number. They now include a calibration fluid to check the test kit.

When I start a new test kit, I always compare it to the one I'm replacing to see how close the results match. For example, I just started a new Salifert Ca test kit and it matched what the result from the older test kit that I was replacing (using both test kits at the same time to check Ca levels in the tank)

I think im just going to go all elos, but do i want general hardness or carbonate hardness to test alk?
