Considering that something like a ReefKeeper Lite (8 outlets at $120) costs less than the amount I've spent on lamp timers over time (over half of which are dead), I have a hard time recommending lamp timers.
Add on all the extra potential something like a ReefKeeper brings…and that your wiring will be much nicer - fewer extension cables, fewer power strips due to timers blocking plugs, etc. (which are extra, necessary expenses with normal timers)...
Add all that up and a controller like a ReefKeeper seems like a no-brainer.
I would stick with Intermatic if you must use a lamp timer. And I would stick to "heavy duty" rated timers if you have the option. I've had equally bad luck with digital and mechanical timers failing, FWIW.
Personally if I could go back in time, I'd never spend a dime on stand-alone timers. While my ReefKeeper is not perfect, it has been so nice vs my timers. And so much more capable if you ever want to set up dosers, etc.
Hope this helps!
