so I am looking for some under the stand light.

what do you run and why?

I know I lot of ppl use the strip LEDs do you go with water proof? guessing its best eh?

what are other options? looking for something somewhat bright slime profile will handle a reef environment ect.

Get a light made for a reef tank. Trying to find a general purpose light to work over a reef is oft wrought with failure. There are all kinds of options made for this from $50 all the way to $5000+.

I used water proof led strips off amazon

My bad - I did not read it right. Radion all the way then... just imagine how impressed your guests will be when you can have a cloudy sump, thunderstorms and lightning over your protein skimmer or just change the mood in your sump with some love-making lighting. Just kidding. Sorry about that. Good luck.

  • IP65 – Water resistant
  • IP66 – Water resistant against powerful jets
  • IP67 – Protected against complete temporary water submersion

I used one of the various 25/50’ strip light Rbg leds off Amazon. I just turn it on and off with the remote because I’ve been to lazy to setup my breakout box and door sensor.

This is what I purchased

yeah I was looking at those. how did you mount it? did the peel off sticky tape work and hold? or did you use someing else to hold them up?

yeah I prob would just do the same. I mean it would be nice in all to have the light come on when you opened the door but that seam like a lot of work just for that...haha but once its done i am sure its nice!

I peeled the backing off my strip. The adhesive is strong and I have mine mounted pointing down fighting gravity and not one inch has budged.

good to know! I was just looking at double sided 3 M tape but did not know if I needed it or not last thing I need is led lights in the sump tho.

Strips lights off amazon run off magnetic switches on a BOB. Get the waterproof ones, and the ones that can be cut and spliced. I ran several strips across the top, and it's bright as heck!

You have a power head in your sump?

I will have one as well. It keep chaeto tumbling and keep crap suspended in the water column and not on the floor.

Yes. As scriptmonkey said above, I will be running Triton and need a lot of sump flow.

I just need to drop in three gallons of MarinePure Spheres, add a Kessil H380 Halo II LED Grow Light, and add water. Here is my sump at current state...
