What’s the best way to catch a wrasse? I put in my 2 liter fish trap but nothing yet. Will the food in there rot? Or make my tank gross? Anything helps. Thanks

If it’s an aggressive feeder then hook and line is a great way!

Fish trap works 100% for me. Trick is to feed and leave door open day one, Same Day two. On day three when fish enters trap , let the door go and caught !!

I usually use a fish trap similar to @vetteguy53081 If that doesn't work, I use the lights out method (wait until the tank is in total darkness for a couple of hours, then switch the lights on. The fish are stunned to the point where you can reach in and pick them up with your hand) which works 100% of the time, as long as you know where the fish sleeps.

Did the lights out method. Stuck my hand in where it sleeps, gave it a little push and home free.
Now, how can I store the fish overnight?

5 gallon bucket of salt water with an air stone or low speed powerhead so you can easily deliver it to someone tomorrow without having to catch again

you can throw it in your sump or even keep it in the fish trap overnight
Don’t have sump or 5 gallon. I use these “buckets” (7 gallon jug with 3 inch hole for mixing). Will a ziploc bag work lol? Never had to do this before

More water volume the better I would say so seven gallons is better than five. I wouldn't use a ziploc bag for fear of the fish polluting the very small amount water, not being able to swim and breathe normally, etc..

Only problem with the 7 gallon is that the hole to put the fish in is the size of my hand. Would have to dump the whole jug out to get fish out but I’m willing to do that if I need to

For future reference, the best method I've found is....

Turn the lights off on the tank and let them all settle down for the night. Grab a net and a headlamp with a red led. Turn only the red led on and go grab em. The red light isn't bright enough for them to navigate by, but it's plenty for you and your net. Makes the job very easy imo.
