Best way to clean old rock?

So I'm getting back into the hobby and I'm picking up a very nice complete system next week. I'm giving the fish away so I have time to start fresh and clean things up. The tank has been taken care of for the most part but the rock is pretty full of junk. I'd like to try to re use most of the rock if possible. Either way I plan to have the tank empty with just rock and water for a minimum of the next 2 months.
