Hello All,

What metjod do you use to cut egg crate?

I tried a table saw, but it broke it a bit.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Steve

i use a pair of pliers, and try to do two at a time, it will limit the damage to the piece you are trying to pop out

like anthony said, a pair of pliers...and you could try to sandpaper the edges to break off the small pieces that remains from the cuts

I also used wire cutters and a nail file. I wanted to make sure everything was smooth so none of my snails or fish would get injured, LOL.

I use tin snips. :)

I cut 2 or 3 sections then take a screwdriver and grab both ends and push it thru to the other end. It makes a mess, But its alot faster. (Sorta like cutting cheese)

If you want to use a power tool, it has to be one with alot of very small fine teeth. Otherwise, it will just grab the eggcrate and rip chunks off.

I've used:

-A scroll/jigsaw works well and is very fast.

-Band saw for small pieces.

I use the screwdriver method too (like creetin) and then sweep up afterwards, ha!

I take it to a benchtop beltsander afterwards as well to sand off all of the burs. Sanding is really quick with the screwdriver method as you are not left w/ many stubbles. The diagnoal-side-cutter method leaves bigger stubbles on every cut which are harder to sand off.

The reason I sand are two fold: 1) I'm a little anal, ha! 2) to prevent scrapes on both my hands and acrylic viewing panes down the road.
