I've got a hang on back filter and I hate it. There really isn't more room inside the tank either because I have like 8 lbs of live rock in the display and over flow box type thing lol. Any ideas?

The only flow I have right now is from the 90 gph pump that pushes the water back from the over flow and from the HOB filter. I've got a small power head coming in the mail.

Get a canister filter in addition to the HOB you have and you will have plenty more space for media such as GAC and GFO and whatever else you want to use.
Buy one that allows for control of the flow so you do not create a storm inside your 8 G tank FWIW

Thank you! That's a great idea. Can't believe I didn't think of that. I've used those on countless planted fresh water tanks. Too bad I've sold them all :neutral:

Yes flow adjustment in a small tank is important so you can adjust to the kind of flow you want for that tank ... There are plenty of brands nowadays and canister filters have come a long way from the ones I remember from a few years ago .. lots of improvements and far more reliable ! and the prices have come down too for most of them except maybe the Eheim ones will still seem to be fairly pricy.
